ESSEX COUNTY LIBRARY BOARD FALL TOUR 9:30 a.m., Saturday, October 17, 1998 Members Present: Mr. Varga, Mrs. Fuerth, Mr. DiMenna Chief Librarian George and Manager of Branches Thompson Ail branches south of County Road 8 were visited: McGregor, Amherstburg, Harrow, Kingsville, Ruthven, Cottam and Essex. At the McGregor Library the Board discussed renovations that should be done based on long term occupancy of the facilities by the Library. At the Amherstburg Library, Board members noted the repairs by the Town to moisture damage in the lower level of the Library, especially at one of the window corners. The area behind the front steps has been an ongoing problem that the Town has also tried to remedy. At the Kingsville Library Board members noted the improvements to the grounds undertaken by the Horticultural Society. The need for painting downstairs was also noted. At the Ruthven Library the condition of the front pillars was examined. At the Cottam Library, it was mentioned that clarification of the ownership of the building was being sought and any effect this might have on the Operation Agreement. At the Essex Library, the need for repointing the stone in the walls at the sides of the steps was noted. Board members visited briefly with the staff at all libraries and had observed some additional deficiencies which were to be attended to. Board member DiMenna had generously supplied his vehicle for the tour and saved the Board a rental fee for a vehicle. Chairperson Varga declared the meeting to have been of extraordinary length and set the per diem at one and a half the regular rate. Ail of which is respectfully submitted.
