ESSEX COUNTY LIBRARY BOARD

FALL TOUR

9:30 a.m., Saturday,
October 19, 1996

Members Present: Mr. Varqa, Mrs. Haugh, Messrs. DiMenna, Innes,
Laird and Warden Schmidt

Chief Librarian George, Manager of Branches
Thompson

Ail branches north of County Road 8 were visited: LaSalle, Malden
Road, Tecumseh, St. Clair Beach, Emeryville, Stoney Point, Comber,
and Woodslee.

The Board members met the staff at each Library, discussed services
and made a brief assessment of the physical facilities.

The impact of the automation implementation at branch libraries was
also noted.

Board members found minor maintenance deficiencies at a number of
the facilities visited. At the LaSalle and Malden Road branches
the need to clean the carpet, due mainly to paint stains from
children's programs, was noted. At the Tecumseh Library, Board
members thought that the windows needed cleaning although it was
pointed out that at least some of the problem was the result of the
window seal failure. At St. Clair Beach, the damage to the
exterior sign had become even more noticeable and the staff was
asked to check again on the status of the repair work with the
Village. At the Stoney Point Library the extensive damage to the
exterior sign was immediately apparent. The Board noted with
appreciation the the new vinyl siding that had been installed on
the building by the Township and the door at the rear of the
Library had been painted. At Comber, the Board asked that a
ceiling panel that was buckling be attended to as soon as possible
to prevent any possible injury. Finally, at the Woodslee Library
the Board remarked on the very cool temperature inside the Library.
Mrs. Sue Tuck, the Supervisor, reported that the furnace had not
yet been turned on in spite of requests to do so. Mr. George was
asked to check with the Rochester Clerk-Administrator about getting
this done.

Chairperson Varga declared the meeting to be of extraordinary
length and set the per diem at one and a half the regular rate.

Ail of which is respectfully submitted.

Mr. William Varga, Chairperson
