<br />bare not become householders by permanent residence in any town or plw��
<br />within the wild County of Essex, shall carry to sell or expose or otter for ea!e
<br />any goods, wares or merchandise, without first taking out a license for said
<br />purpose.
<br />Be it therefore enacted by the authority aforesaid, that the licenses bereia,
<br />before mentioned shall be, granted by the County Clerk upon a certificate frog
<br />the County Treasurer, that such person has prid the amount of such license
<br />into his hands, and for eve_y such license that shall be granted, there shall be
<br />paid by the persons applying for the same the slim of $30 for a double -horse
<br />conveyance; the sum of $20 for a single -horse conveyance, and the sum of 1g
<br />for foot pedlars and hawkere, and for any persons pedling or hawking in any
<br />other conveyance than above enumerated, the sum of $40.
<br />Be it further enacted by the autbority aforesaid, that any person or pe,sooe
<br />who shall sell or carry to sell, or expose or offer to sell any goods, wares or
<br />merchandise without first baviog obtained a lieense therefor, shall be subjeet
<br />to a penalty of not less than $4, nor more than $20 for every contravention of
<br />this By -law, to be levied by warrant under the hand and seal of any justice of
<br />the Peace of the County of Essex, upon conviction ; and in default of su heient
<br />distress, the party so convicted be imprisoned in the common gaol of the Cow
<br />ty of Essex for a period not exceeding twenty days.
<br />Be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that all monies received fa
<br />licenses and penalties and fees levied and collected under this By -law, shall he
<br />paid into the Treasurer of the County of ]Essex, and *Call fords part of 14e
<br />general fund of the County, and further repealing all former By laws. ,

<br />BY -LAW NO. 94.
<br />A By -Law to levy a tax in the County of Essex, for the itnprovemmt of
<br />County Roads
<br />PAMD 21st Juae,1861,
<br />Whereas it is expedient to raise the sum of two thousand five hundred aW
<br />fifty -eight dollars, for the improvement of certain roads and bridges is the
<br />County of Essex,
<br />I. Be it enacted by the Council of the corporation of the County of pall�
<br />Council assembled, under and by virtue of the Canada Municipal Act, and it
<br />is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, that there shall be raised, kvW
<br />and collected the said sum of two thousand five hundred and fifty -eight dcilah
<br />upon the whole rateable property in the said County of Essex, in addition to all
<br />other rates and assessments imposed. for the improvement of certaia movie
<br />and bridges in the County of Essex.
<br />2. Be it enacted that the said sum of two thousand five hundred and 6ti
<br />eight dollars to be raised and levied as aforesaid, shall be expended as follow
<br />That is to say, according to the apportionment anneied to the report of the
<br />Road and Bridge Committee of June 2194 1866.
<br />3. Be it enacted that the whole ap to be done and performed as eforseaW s
<br />be given out by contract by public competition by the said parties daly hill
<br />pointed to superintend the same, on or before the Brat day of October next;
<br />should any one or more of the above mentioned parties fail to be present at ya
<br />time aplk,inted for the letting of the work, then any one member of such eqv
<br />miasioners present may proceed to the letting of the same
<br />4. Be it enacted that all contracts entered into for the performanoe of ao
<br />work to be done under the provisions of this By -law, shall be signed by ail the
<br />commissioners letting the same on behalf of the corporation, and that all 8414
<br />shall be paid by the Treasurer, upon a certificate being produced front the �
<br />maaioner or commissioners letting the same of the wurk having been perB>rnad
<br />aee ording to contract.
