ESSEX COUNTY LIBRARY BOARD FALL TOUR 9:30 a.m., Saturday, October 30, 2004 Members Present: Mr. Varga, Mr. McDermott, Ms. McLean, Mr.O'Neil and Ms. Robinson Chief Librarian George and Manager of Branches Thompson The six branch libraries north of County Road 8 were visited: the one in LaSalle (William (Bill) Varga Library), the one in Tecumseh (Cada Municipal Library) and the four in Lakeshore: Lakeshore, Stoney Point, Comber and Woodslee. The tour provided an opportunity for the Board to meet some of the staff at their libraries, examine the facilities and get an overview of the operations of the branch libraries in the three municipalities in the northern part of the County. At LaSalle, Board members were joined by Councillor Rick Meloche from the Town of Essex. Mr. George explained the features of the LaSalle Library that he hoped would be incorporated in the relocated Essex Library. At Tecumseh, .a few deficiencies were noted in the facilities and Mr. George was asked to make the Town of Tecumseh aware of them. At Lakeshore, Mr. George expressed the hope that the problems with the leaking roof had finally been remedied. At Stoney Point, the Town of Lakeshore was commended for the installation of the sidewalk to the entrance of the Library. At Comber, Board members were told how the Town of Lakeshore had successfully remedied the problem of fumes from the adjacent firehall. The Board also discussed the date of the November Board meeting and determined that: Moved by Mr. O'Neil Seconded by Mr. McDermott THAT the next Library Board meeting be rescheduled to November 26 at 6:00 p.m. CARRIED. Finally, at Woodslee, the Board noted the condition of the building. It was suggested that Mr. George write to the Town of Lakeshore to advise them of the deficiencies the Board had noted at some of their library facilities.
