Members Present:

ESSEX COUNTY LIBRARY BOARD

FALL TOUR

9:30 a.m., Saturday,
October 28, 2000

Mr. Varga, Messrs. AtlsoD, DiMenna and Warden
O'Neil
Chief Librarian George, Manager of Branches
Thompson

Ail branch libraries north of County Road 8 were visited: the one
in LaSalle, the one in Tecumseh and the four in Lakeshore:
Lakeshore, Stoney Point, Comber and Woodslee.

The Board members met the staff at each Library, discussed services
and made a brief assessment of the physical facilities.

At LaSalle, it was noted that this Library had set a new standard
for facilities. It was hoped that this would be emulated in
Tecumseh which was now severely crowded due to the relocation of
materials that followed the closure of one of the two Drevious
branches in the Municipality.

Leaks in the roof at the Lakeshore Branch had been a problem since
the Library opened. The Town of Lakeshore had a reroofing job done
recently that it was hoped would solve the problems but to date,
leaks were still occurring. The low lighting level in the program
room at the Lakeshore Library was also a concern. At the Stoney
Point Library the condition of the outer rear door was noted. Roof
leaks were also noted at the Comber Library but it was hoped that
a recent cleaning of the roof drains was all that was necessary to
prevent further leaking. The need for exterior painting by the
Town of Lakeshore at the Woodslee Library was also noted.

Mr. DiMenna had generously saved the Board the rental fee for a van
by supplying his own vehicle for the tour.

chairperson Varga declared the meeting to be of extraordinary
length and set the per diem at one and a half the regular rate.

Ail of which is respectfully submitted.

Mr. William Varga, Chairperson
