ESSEX COUNTY LIBRARY BOARD
SPRING TOUR
9:30 a.m., Saturday,
April 8, 2000

Members Present:

Mr. Varga, Mrs. Fuerth, Messrs. Allsop, DiMenna,
Innes and Warden O'Neil
chief Librarian George and Manager of Branches
Thompson

Ail branches south of County Road 8 were visited: McGregor,
Amherstburg, Harrow, Kingsville, Ruthven, Leamington, Cottam and
Essex.

The tour provided an opportunity for the Board to meet staff
members at their branch libraries, examine the facilities and
develop a better understanding of the operation of the Library
system.

The Library Board reviewed the minutes of the March 22 meeting
which had been held without a quorum. The Board agreed with the
resolutions and it was:

Moved by Mr. DiMenna
Seconded by Mr. Innes
THAT all resolutions of the March 22 meeting be approved by the
Board. CARRIED.

At the McGregor Library, the Board met with members of the Town of
Essex Council and discussed renovations that should be done based
on long term occupancy of the facilities by the Library.

At the Amherstburg Library, Board members noted the moisture damage
in the lower level of the Library, especially at one of the window
corners. The area behind the front steps has also been an ongoing
problem. The lighting deficiencies, the high moisture levels in air
on the lower level and repair work to the front steps were also
commented upon.

At the Harrow Library the work on the landscaping was noted.

At the Kingsville Library, Board members commented on the condition
of the washroom.

At the Ruthven Library the lighting deficiencies were noted.

Board members considered the hours of service at the Kingsville and
Ruthven Libraries. It was noted that with the inclusion of the
Leamington Library in the Essex County Library sysem, the Ruthven
Library had been less busy whereas the Kingsville Library had been
increasingly so. Given that a staff member was leaving the Ruthven
Library, it was suggested that it was an opportune time to adjust
the hours of the Ruthven and Kingsville Libraries.
