ESSEX COUNTY LIBRARY BOARD
SPRING TOUR
9:30 a.m., Saturday,
May 8, 1999

Members Present: Mr. Varga, Mrs. Fuerth, Messrs. Allsop, DiMenna
and Innes
Chief Librarian George and Manager of Branches
Thompson

Ail branches south of County Road 8 were visited: McGregor,
Amherstburg, Harrow, Kingsville, Ruthven, Leamington, Cottam and
Essex.

The tour provided an opportunity for the Board to meet staff
members at their branch libraries, examine the facilities and
develop a better understanding of the operation of the Library
system.

At the McGregor Library, the Board discussed renovations that
should be done based on long term occupancy of the facilities by
the Library.

At the Amherstburg Library, Board members noted the moisture damage
in the lower level ofthe Library, especially at one of the window
corners. The area behind the front steps has been an ongoing.
problem that the Town has also tried to remedy.

At the Harrow Library the need to trim the shrubs outside the
Library was noted.

At the Kingsville Library, Board members noted the condition of the
paint and frames of the exterior windows.

At the Leamington Library, the Board noted the more spacious
appearance of the Library due to the recent renovations and
changes. Mr. George indicated that this work would be continuing
with further improvments being made late in August.

At the Essex Library, the need for repointing the stone in the
walls at the sides of the steps was noted as well as the condition
of the lawn.

Board member Innes had generously supplied his vehicle for the tour
and saved the Board a rental fee for a vehicle.

Chairperson Varga declared the meeting to have been of
extraordinary length and set the per diem at one and a half the
regular rate.

Ail of which is respectfully submitted.

Mr. William Varga, Chairperson
