Delegations and Presentations (Continued...) <br /> Wrestling Association in requesting that the International <br /> Olympic Committee keep wrestling as a core sport for the <br /> Summer Olympics. <br /> 125-13 Moved by Mr. McDermott <br /> Seconded by Ms. Stomp <br /> THAT Mr. David Tremblay and members of the L'Essor Wrestling <br /> Team be permitted to address County Council. Carried <br /> Mr. David Tremblay Sr., advised Council that the <br /> International Olympic Committee (IOC) was considering <br /> removing the sport of wrestling from the summer <br /> Olympics. Mr. Tremblay noted that wrestling was one of <br /> the inaugural sporting events at the first Olympic Games in <br /> Athens in 1896. He urged members of Council to pass a <br /> resolution to request that the IOC keep wrestling as a core <br /> sport in the Summer Olympics. <br /> Mr. Fazio requested that the resolution be forwarded to <br /> local MPs, MPPs, local municipalities including the City of <br /> Windsor and the Township of Pelee and the National <br /> Wrestling Association. <br /> 126-13 Moved by Mr. Fazio <br /> Seconded by Mr. Sutherland <br /> Wrestling has been a sport on the Core Olympic Programme <br /> since the beginning of the modern Olympic Games. It is <br /> organized in 177 countries worldwide, offering opportunities and <br /> health benefits to millions worldwide. The sport of wrestling has <br /> a unique diversity and the power to unite countries of all <br /> continents. <br /> WHEREAS Wrestling has been recommended to be removed from <br /> the Olympic Games core programming by the International <br /> Olympic Committee Executive Board; <br /> AND WHEREAS Wrestling provides sporting and recreational <br /> opportunities for persons of all ages, of all races, of all religions, <br /> of all body types and of all economic classes; <br />
