ORDER MADE UNDER THE <br /> MUNICIPAL ACT <br /> R.S.O. 1990, c,~.45 <br /> <br />ORDER <br /> <br /> WHEREAS subsection 25.2(2) of the Municipal Act authorizes a <br />municipality to make a restructuring proposal to restructure <br />municipalities; <br /> <br /> AND WHEREAS the restructuring proposal meets the <br />requirements of section 25.2 of the Municipal Act; <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE, under subsection 25.2(4) of the Municipal <br />Act, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing orders as <br />follows: <br /> <br />1. Definitions - In this Order, <br /> <br />"former municipalities" means the Corporation of the Town of <br />Belle River and the Corporation of the Township of Maidstone as <br />they existed on December 31, 1997; and <br /> <br />"new Township" means the Corporation of Lakeshore Township <br />created as a result of the amalgamation under section 2. <br /> <br /> 2. Amalga~atlon - (1) On January 1, 1998, The Corporation of <br />the Town of Belle River and The Corporation of the Township of <br />Maidstone are amalgamated as a township under the name of "The <br />Corporation of Lakeshore Township" within the County of Essex. <br /> <br /> (2) The terms of office of the members of the council of the <br />former municipalities and their local boards are extended until <br />December 51, 1997. <br /> <br /> 3. Representation - (1) Composition of council - The council <br />of the new Township shall be composed of seven (7) members, a <br />Mayor, a Deputy Mayor and five (5) members of council. <br /> <br /> (2) Election of councll members - The Mayor and Deputy Mayor <br />shall be elected at large, and the five members of council shall <br />be elected by ward, with two members elected for Ward 1 and three <br />members elected for Ward 2. <br /> <br /> (3) Number of votes on council - Each member of council <br />shall have one vote. <br /> <br /> (4) County council representatives - The Mayor and Deputy <br />Mayor shall sit as members of the council of the County of Essex. <br />The Mayor shall have two votes, and the Deputy Mayor one vote, <br />until such time as the county council provides for an alternative <br />voting structure under the Municipal Act. <br /> <br /> <br />
