BY-LAW NUMBER 2274 A BY-LAW TO REGULATE PARKING WHEREAS pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal Act, 1976, Section 373, Paragraph l0 (c) the Council of the Corporation of the County of Essex is desirous of regulating parking; AND WHEREAS it is desirous to convert to metric signing; NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the County of Essex enacts as follows: DEFINITIONS: For the purpose of this by-law: "Park" or "parking", when prohibited, means the standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when standing temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unload- ing merchandise or passengers. "Highway" includes a common or public highway, street, avenue, parkway, driveway, square, place, bridge, viaduct or trestle, designed and intended for, or used by, the general public for the passage of vehicles. "Vehicle" includes a motor vehicle, trailer, traction engine, farm tractor, raod-building machine and any vehicle drawn, propelled or driven by any kind of power, including muscular power, but does not include a motorized snow vehicle, the cars or electric or steam railways running only upon rails. The Highway Traffic, Chapter 202, Section 1 (11), (20), (35), R. S. O. 1970. METHOD 0M PARKING: No person shall park a vehicle on any street other than a one-way street unless on the right hand side of the street having regard for the direction in which the vehicle had been proceeding and unless the right front and right rear wheels or runners of the vehicle are parallel to and distant respectively not more than 15 centi- metres from the edge of the roadway. PARKINGREGULATIONS: When properly worded signs have been erected and are on display no person shall park a vehicle on the highways or part of highways hereinafter set out in Schedule '~". PENALTIES: Any person violating any of the provisions of this by-law shall be subject to a penalty of not more than ten dollars for the first offence and not more than fifty dollars for every subsequent offence, under the Ontario Summary Convictions Act.
