McHEE, Clerk. BY -LAW NO. 72. [Sigas3; C. G. FO%, Wordsa. A By-Law to raise certain moneys for the improvement of certain Roads and Bridges in the County of Essex. Passed Jae 14th, 1884. Whereas, it is expedient to raise moneys for the improvement of certain Roads and Bridges in the County of Essex. Be it therefore enacted by the Council of the Corporation of the County of Essex, in Council assembled, and it is hereby enacted that there shall be raised, levied and ool. lected a rate of one mill in the dollar, amounting to the sum of eight thousand, three hundred and ninety -five dollars, ($8,896) upon the whole ratable property in the County of Essex. In addition to all other rates and assessments imposed, for the improvement of certain Roads and Bridges in the County of Essex. Be it further enacted the said sum of eight thousand three hundred and ninety -fin dollars to be raised, levied and collected as aforesaid, shall be expended as set forth in the schedule hereunder written, which schedule shall form part of this by -taw. And be it further enacted that the whole work to be doneand performed as aforesaid shall be given out by contract, by public competition, or in such other manner as to the commissioner or commissioners, duly appointed to superintend the same, may seam best, on oribefore the first day of September next, and should any one of the said com- missioners fail to be present at the time appointed for the letting of the work then any one of the commissioners may proceed to the letting of the same. And be it further enacted that all oontmots entered into for the performance of the work to be done under the provisions of this By -law shall be signed by thecommission- er or commissioners letting the same, on behalf of the County eorporation,and that all rums be paid by the Treasurer of the County upon a oertificate being produced from the said commissioner or commissioners letting the same of the work having been per. formed according to contract. And be it further enacted that the several commissioners so appointed to superin. tend the letting of the work to be done as aforesaid shall receive four per cent. upou contracts entered into by them under the provisions of this By-Law. And be it further enacted that the several commissioners aforesaid under this By. IAw be and they are hereby required to send a report of the manner in which the rte. pnctive appro nations for the several municipalities for which they are commission. are respectively have been expended, to the County Clerk not later than the list day of 'somber usat.
