ONTAI~IO
DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS

Mr. C.A. Keeley,
Clerk, County of Essex,
County Buildings,
Windsor, Ontario.

Toronto 2, April 9th, 1952.

Dear Sir:

~ - 1952 County Road Expenditure By-laws -

Please be advised that the Department has carefully con-
sidered the by-law to provide for expenditures under The Highway
Improvement Act in the year 1952 as submitted by your municipality,
and the Yiinister of Highways, the Honourable Geo. H. Doucett, has
approved of a maximum total expenditure of $ 542,000.00 on which
subsidy may be payable under the said Act.

This overall approval is given subject to approval of each
individual work of road construction and bridge construction and of
the purchase of each unit of machinery or equipment. In all such
cases the District Engineer must be advised and approval obtained
before the proposed work or purchase is advertised and tenders called,
or any commitment made by the municipality.

It must be distinctly understood that if the appropriations
for roads, bridges and culverts, and machinery as shown in the by-law
are expended for any other purpose than that for which they ~ere
respectively appropriated, subsidy will not apply on the expenditure
unless the written approval of the Department is obtained before the
expenditure is made in each case.

The Department requests your co-operation so that the
amount of the expenditure in 1952 submitted for subsidy will not
exceed the approved by-law amount as stated above and shown for the
different work classifications on the copy of the by-law returned to
you herewith.
Yours very truly,

J .~,.~. MacInne s,
Chief Municipal Engineer.

J~.~/DD
Attach,
